The Saudi Ministry of Labour and Social Development (MLSD) and the Ministry of Housing announced that foreign expatriates will be required to have a registered rental agreement before they’ll be issued a new or renewed work permit.
This means that only those with rental contracts registered on the new Ejar rental network will be able to renew their residence visas.
The labour and housing ministry plan to implement this system from early September.
The first phase will require foreign residents to link their rental contract to the network to renew their work permits.
The Ejar platform was launched in February in an effort to better manage the rental market and provide a more efficient manner for settling disputes.
Earlier this month, the portal was enabled to take rental payment transactions through the online system rather than the traditional cheque.
