Saudi to issue electronic tourist visas

Saudi Arabia will start issuing electronic visas for nationals from selected countries and those in the Schengen zone. The nationalities applicable are Japan, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei, Australia, South Korea, South Africa and countries in North and South America.

The new system is expected to take place over the next few weeks.

As Saudi Arabia are working to diversify their economy away from oil, foreign ministries and the tourism authority have put in place this system to increase the tourism sector.

The new system has its’ own set of regulations, including, those from the applicable countries must apply in advance for an entry visa at the Kingdom’s consulate abroad. Additionally, women under 30 should be accompanied by a family member.
