Saudi Arabia invites bids for railway services

The Saudi Public Authority (PTA) have invited railway service companies to apply to provide the operations and maintenance (O & M) services for the Kingdom’s main railway networks. The application requires interested bidders to submit pre-qualification documents.

The O & M services will be divided into three categories; infrastructure management, passenger operations and freight operations.

The scope of work will potentially include; operating freight and passenger services, management and maintenance of dry ports, management and maintenance of passenger stations, maintenance of rolling stock and signalling and telecommunications infrastructure.

The reported deadline for companies to express interest and respond to a pre-qualification questionnaire is January 19.

The request for proposal (RFP) is expected to be issued in Q1 of 2018.

The contracts part of the proposal are the Riyadh to Dammam network, the current North to South Railway and other railway networks currently under construction.

The proposal comes from the Kingdom’s objective to privatize the railway sector and as a part of the wider privatization drive.
