UAE and Switzerland sign visa exemption deal

UAE and Switzerland signed a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday, making passport holders of both nations mutually exempt from applying for short-term visas.

Switzerland previously had multiple entry 90-day visit visa valid for six months when entering the UAE.

Under the deal, UAE passport holders will be able to visit Switzerland, and Swiss passport holders the UAE, without obtaining a visa for short term stays.

The agreement was made to the match entry terms the UAE has with countries in the Schengen Area.

The agreement was signed by Ahmad Abdul Rahman Al Jarman, Assistant to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in Legal Affairs, and Maya Tissafi, Switzerland’s Ambassador to the UAE.

Among Switzerland, the UAE have also recently been granted visa-free travel to St Lucia and Chad. Additionally, the UAE has also added more passports to its’ visa on arrival list, including Indians with a US visa and Russian nationals.
