Saudi Arabia to invest in Sports City

The launch of a sports and entertainment city in Riyadh has been announced by the Saudi Arabian Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman. The Kingdom’s sovereign wealth fund, Public Investment Fund, will be the largest investor in this initiative.

“This city will become a prominent cultural landmark and an important center for meeting the future generation’s recreational, cultural and social needs in the Kingdom,” said Prince Mohammed, according to the Saudi Press Agency.

The foundations of the city will built in 2018 and the first phase is expected to be completed in 2020, according to an SPA report. The project is expected to include a Six Flags City as one of the major attractions.

Six Flags said that they had began discussions with the Saudi government to build theme parks as a way to contribute to the Kingdom’s efforts of expanding its’ entertainment sector and diversifying the economy.
